Why invest in Investment Shares?
In December, we reached the threshold for sales of investment shares to allow us to start operations. Even though we have now met the minimum requirement, there may still be an opportunity for individual or business members to purchase shares in the weeks and months ahead. The Board of Directors will decide shortly if the credit union should continue to raise additional capital. If you are interested in acquiring investment shares, please call us or click the e-mail link below. For a de novo credit union, investment shares are vital to its formation. They represent the bulk of the start-up capital it needs to ensure the safety of its deposits, support its asset base as it grows, and finance the institution’s operating costs until such time as they can be met by revenues on an ongoing basis. Purchasing investment shares is also an excellent way for members to support their credit union’s growth plans and, at the same time, earn themselves an above-average rate of return compared to term deposits or GICs. They are unlike the mandatory $25 membership share, which all individuals purchase upon entry into membership and which entitles them to do business at the credit union. Instead, investment shares are purchased at the member’s option, in varying amounts depending on his or her resources, and are held to maturity as an investment because of the attractive return. |
