Investment Share Offering

For a relatively new credit union, investment shares are vital to its formation and growth. They represent the bulk of the capital needed to ensure the safety of its deposits, support its asset base as it grows, and finance the institution’s operating costs until such time as they can be met by revenues on an ongoing basis.

Purchasing investment shares is an excellent way for members to support their credit union’s growth plans and, at the same time, earn themselves an above-average rate of return compared to term deposits or GICs. Like a new issue of stock or bonds, the sale of Creative Arts Savings & Credit Union’s investment shares is governed by regulators.  All the terms and conditions of the sale, and the shares themselves, are laid out in an Offering Statement – a form of prospectus.

Here are some of the details of our offering

  • Members purchasing investment shares earn an excellent return in comparison to GICs.
  • The non-cumulative Class B shares are priced at 5-year GICs plus 1.25%.
  • Shares are priced at $1.00 per share, with a minimum purchase of $500.
  • Investment shares are RRSP-eligible.  Members will be able to transfer money from RRSPs currently held at other financial institutions to purchase the credit union’s investment shares.
  • Investment shares are not insured deposits like GICs or savings accounts.  Like mutual funds units or other securities such as stocks and bonds, they are backed by the credit worthiness of the issuer – in this case, Creative Arts Savings & Credit Union.

The Benefits of Investing

Aside from the above-average financial return, the most significant benefit to the member is the launch and the subsequent growth of the credit union, which is dependent on a successful share issue. Without this vital capital, the opportunity will be missed to build a special kind of financial institution – one that is designed to serve your unique needs in ways the mainstream banks cannot.
