ACTRA Members speak up about credit union membership

Versatile actor and director Gerry Mendicino was proud to be one of the first ACTRA members to join Creative Arts.

“I was interested in joining the credit union right from the start,” declares Gerry Mendicino. “They understand us, and they’re working for us as ACTRA members. And so I transferred in some RRSPs. I wanted to help make it a success. It was important to me to do my part.”

Gerry, who has starred in features such as My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Saw VI, Hairspray and Dogfather, and TV shows like Ready or Not and The Bridge, is also a veteran of stage and commercials. 

Established entertainment professionals like Gerry have their choice of multiple banking and investment options. “But I much prefer going to a place that feels like family instead of strangers. The people at Creative Arts are willing to do whatever they can to help.”

“I know some actors who have received loans at good rates from Creative Arts with no problem. It helps being able to go in and they know your position. The credit union begins the process by respecting who you are as a person and a professional. Banks are only after your money.”

Since his wife is a teacher, Gerry has been familiar with the credit union concept for years. “Creative Arts has all the same products as banks, such as the TFSA which helps you save. And when they offered direct deposit of my PRS cheques, it made it a lot easier for me to save that money.”

Asked if he had any banking advice for other ACTRA members, Gerry said: “It’s a no-brainer to join. It’s good for our community. And it can only help us in the long run, whether you need it now or in the future.”

“It’s a privilege to have a credit union.”
