Whole life is a guaranteed policy with an investment portion to support the premiums at the same level for the duration of the policy. Universal life's investment portion is not guaranteed and is based on investments of your choice, and can be used as a tax-advantaged investment.

Term to 100 is a level-premium, guaranteed policy with no cash value that can be accessed by the policyholder. Five, ten and twenty-year terms are the least-expensive forms of life insurance to purchase at any point in your life, but are the most expensive if coverage is to be carried for life, as the premium increases significantly at the end of each term.
